The origin of Ortofon traces back to 1918 when A. Peterson and A. Paulsen founded
Electrical Phonofilm Company. Soon the names of the two founders became famous
around the globe when they announced the world’s first motion pictures sound track system.

Later they changed the company name to Phonofilm Industries A/S. and under its organization
Ortofon A/S was established in 1951.
The name ,Ortofon , however, had been in use as brand name for many other company products.
The name, Ortofon, derives from two Greek words, “ Orthos” meaning, right, true and accurate
and “ Phon “ , sound and voice. True to the meaning of the words, Ortofon, the company has lived
up to the name in the advancement of the analog audio technology, and has been at the
forefront in pursuit of the motto, “ Accuracy in Sound “.
